Christian of Christian RichCRICH is not only a dope artist and phenomenal producer. So while the Drake backlash is slowly brewing, he’s taking it all in.  The article below is his 2 cents from an artist perspective.

DrakeDrake is the progression of music.  I can’t say that I’m familiar with a lot of his music but I do know that his model is where music is supposed to go when speaking on the evolution of the industry as a whole.  Some may say I’m just being a follower, jumping on the Drake bandwagon, but I only go by the facts I’m given.

Drake is not signed to Young Money or any label.  This is a cruel point for previous artist screwed by bad deals. Lack of a label means this means he and his team (lawyers, managers) keep all the profit.  The middle man has just been eliminated.  Anyone with common sense knows that when you eliminate the middle man you make more, no matter what form of business you are in.

The labels that want to court him are gonna have to reconstruct their business model from the 360 deals presently offered.  Why would Drake give a label a percentage? He gets a few thousand per show, publishing rights from  his guest features, and I’m sure future endorsement deals are to follow.  It doesn’t make sense.  This is not confirmed, but I heard that he had 3 million on the table. With his persistent work ethics and hit records, he can make that on his own in no time.  You have to think logically, if a label is willing to give you 3 million to sign, imagine how much they think they are really gonna make off you, it’s a trade off but one had to truly be careful when making that decision.  Plus that money has to be recouped to the label.

The audience and artist are getting smarter and know free ways to choose obtain music. They are choosing their artist rather than letting labels and executive determine whose “next”.  The internet is quicker than any TV program could be. Hence the reason why TRL is defunct.  To the point: Drake is the model for the businessof music!
