Maluca

You may have seen the video posted last week, or perhaps noticed that it’s our video of the week. We post so much hip hop and male dominated genres, that when we find a female we like.. We love her. We love Maluca.

maluca

Born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan by Dominican parents, Maluca is New York. Any resident of NY knows that Latin roots run deep throughout the city, Maluca effectively combines her roots with the music that is today; edgy, full of punch, and enough to make you forget that half the country is practically out of work. She is signed to Mad Decent, and I have gotten HEAT before for supporting the music that comes out of that camp, but its good music that cannot be denied. After meeting Diplo at a karaoke bar, the two starting working together resulting in her debut single “El Tigeraso” , an infectious track that draws on her Dominican electro Merengue roots.

I’ve had the opportunity to see Maluca perform twice, where she showcased her wide range of influences – from artists such as ESGSavannah BandWu-TangGil Scott HeronNina Simone to styles like MerengueSalsaCumbiaHouseDisco, and Freestyle. She’s self proclaimed “1/2 dominican 1/2 Pain in the ass.”

I see a lot of familiar faces from the NYC scene in this clip. Joya Bravo,Anton Glamb, Santhya, Promise of Black Angels NYC… nothing beats NYC summers.  Next Wave of Female Artist. If you have never had any of Dante’s Fried Chicken or any of his cooking. Your deprived.
