Curren$y – Pilot Talk Preview

Curren$y aka Hot Spitta has had a lengthy rollercoaster of a ride since first signing with Master P’s No Limit Records as a teenager.  After parting ways with fellow Big Easy native Lil Wayne in late 2007, Curren$y relocated his hip-hop home base to New York City where he linked up with Dame Dash as part of his now underground staple company DD172.

In the past year the New Orleans rapper has put his selection to XXL’s Freshman 10 of ‘09 to good use, stirring up the biggest buzz in his career thus far.  In 2010 Curren$y has dropped a coveted mixtape titled Smokee Robinson, been an intricate part of the Ski Beatz mixtape 24 Hour Karate School and worked closely with an equally rising star by the name of Wiz Khalifa.  Now on the cusp of releasing his much talked about project “Pilot Talk” the Fly Society co-founder has a big weight on his young but seasoned shoulders.  Tune into Pilot Talk’s intro track “King Kong” and you’ll soon figure that this rapping thing is no sweat to the Hot Spitta as he boasts “Snatchin’ bitches, top of the building / King Kong ain’t got shit on me”.

Look for Pilot Talk to take flight into your speakers the middle of next month.  Check out the Creative Control clip of the Pilot Talk listening party, the preview for “King Kong” and the full mixtape tracklist coming right up.  Also download the “King Kong” track + “Role Model” which is produced by Ski Beatz.  Jetsss!

Video Drop: Tanya Morgan – Bang + Boogie

TANYA MORGAN – BANG + BOOGIE DIRECTED BY BERMAN FENELUS from AAC FILMS on Vimeo.

There hasn’t been too much noise from rap trio Tanya Morgan since there poppin’ single “How Low” off of the group’s “The Bridge” project but it’s good to see them creating a buzz again even with the late pass in hand.  While “How Low” was a track you’d imagine hearing at a rollerskating rink thanks to its electro flair and old school base, “Bang + Boogie” off of the ‘09 LP “Brooklynati” has a different M.O.  Although it looks a lil’ chilly in the video with all those jackets, the song has a kick back summertime feel to it, perfect to bump at you next BBQ.  Follow these three emcee’s as they deliver tales about encounters with some fly shorties.

Ariez Onasis: Street Fighter Flow

April 12, 2010 by N Middz

While I’m not the most avid gamer out there, I’m definitely a big fan of when rappers hop on a track from a video game, or one that includes SFX and/or samples of that nature. Last week a TV spot for the new release Street Fighter IV made waves due mainly to its soundtrack courtesy of colossal beatsmith Just Blaze.  Although many of Just’s artists on his Fort Knocks Entertainment label are not widely known yet, his affinity for gaming is.  Thus it makes a lot of sense that Capcom would reach out to the hit maker to spearhead their ad campaign.

This week a rapper did in fact take the opportunity to kick rhymes on the fighting game’s TV spot instrumental. That rapper was up and coming Mass. native Ariez Onasis. If you don’t know his name, well just bump the track and you’ll know by the end of the first bar. Already featured on the respected DJBooth.Net, Onasis definitely has a raw and unique sound which will serve him well in the long run. The Greek-Palestinian American lyricist was originally a poet and is now a flagship artist for Dice Music Group, a label founded by producer J. Cardim. AO already has recorded tracks with members of The Lox and Pleasure P just for starters. Check for him to be all over the Dice Music Presents mixtape which also features the likes of Joe Budden, Styles P, Sheek, Juelz Santana and Termanology among others. Also be on the look-out for Ariez debut The Heartbreak Kid produced entirely by synth maestro J. Cardim.

Here’s a new dose of that hippie hop music from one of our favorite out of the box MC’s, Rich Hil.  Ricky is known for releasing a slew of new material on a regular basis which can always be found on his home site Nolimos.com.  This newest tape is called Hippies Most Wanted Vol. 2 and features some tracks that have been released in the past couple months along with some brand new gems.  Guests on this tour of audio uppers and downers include Kid Cudi, Tyga and Hil’s homie and frequent collaborator Boo Bonic.  If the kid keeps droppin’ tapes like this on the regular, I foresee him getting trippy trippy trippy all over radio by 2011.  Download and tracklist after the jump.

Several of us here at The Eargasm have been fans of one particular neo-harmonizing caucasian guy for quite some time now.  That guy would be Dan Black.  He’s really making a run of it this year, especially with his Kid Cudi assisted single “Symphonies”.  Look forward to seeing him get more shine as the year progresses.  We wish him the best of success.  Dont forget to pick up the March 20th issue of Billboard with Black and Cudi on the cover.

Get Weerd

Hollyweerd LIVE @ SXSW (We Put the A in Austin) from John Stewart on Vimeo.

In the atmosphere of today’s music industry, a certain level of abnormality is required to achieve relativity.  Rap quartet Hollyweerd are not by any means from Tinsel Town but at the rate they are going, big time fame may be crossed off their check list pretty soon.  Comprised of members Dreamer, Tuki, The Love Crusader and Staggo Lee, the independent label grind has shaken up a buzz for these weerdo’s.  The Atlanta spawned Hollyweerd are one of the few Hip-Hop groups that seem to have a well enough constructed sound that they should be able to withstand the perils that many rapping in numbers have succumbed to in recent history.  A sign of that could be that they were recently featured as one of XXL magazine’s groups to look out for in 2010.  Check out their ‘09 EP The Colorblind Cognac.  They are currently working on 2 mixtapes, one of which is co-hosted by Don Cannon.  Check out the footage above of the crew performing at the We Put the “A” in Austin showcase from this year’s SXSW festival.

The regular version of this song was actually one of my top songs of 2009. Ran across this little video of the acoustic version and decided to share it with those who might not have gotten to see it. Because here at the Eargasm we  believe, sharing is caring.
